RIP Michael Jackson

There's not much that I can say about Michael Jackson, his life or his untimely death, that hasn't already been said a million times by a million people- both smarter and dumber than myself. I can say that as a young lad I was quite a fan of his music, as were most people. My #1 jam back in the day was Man in The Mirror. He also allegedly (but more likely than not) did a lot of really fucked up things, and he certainly had a lot of troubles in his life- he experienced more and had more pressures on him at a young age than most of us ever will.
Michael Jackson is an icon who will live on far past his time on earth. My thoughts go out to his family, especially Janet who I've been jamming to a lot lately.

R.I.P. Michael

LIVE BLOGGING TAYLOR SWIFT

I was just alerted to the existence of a new Taylor Swift video by Alex, It is important that my initial reactions are captured for posterity's sake so I am Live-Blogging my first viewing of the video for "White Horse" by Taylor Swift, starring the artist and Stephen Coletti of Laguna Beach and irrelevancy fame:

0:00- This is sooo exciting!!!
0:06- WTF IS BIG MACHINE RECORDS I WANT TAYLOR!
0:24- way to not be convincingly in love Taylor...
0:44- the mise-en-scene (I'm taking film studies) is reminiscent of Demi's "Dont forget" or Hil's "come clean"
1:16- ooh Go Fish is so SEXY!
1:24- eskimo kisses
1:40 -oh shit... "There's something you need to know about him"
2:24- this shot is reminiscent of Avril Lavigne's "I'm with you", another classic emotional teen-pop ballad.
2:39- Stephen! Where the hell is your eco-friendly, re-usable grocery bag!?
2:45- OH SNAP! who's this pinched bitch stealing Taylor's man!?
3:15- the tears of an angel, nay, a mermaid
3:21- SCREAM IT OUT, TAY-TAY, SCREAM IT ALL OUT!!!
3:51- Yeah Taylor! Girl Power! You don't need him!
4:00- the classic wall slide

Well, that was interesting... It was beautiful, really it was... I'm just glad that we were all able to share this beautiful, heart-wrenching experience with Taylor. And with each other. We are all better people for it. Now go forth into the world, and share the good news, the news that Taylor is over Joe Jonas or Stephen Coletti or whatever dark haired boy-wonder she was once in love with, and it's too late for him and his white horse (is that a drug reference?)

May we all learn a great lesson on independence and moving on from Taylor, the great singer of words of our dire times.

Trailerz!

The trailers for the two movies I'm anticipating the most premiered this week. I love when trailers come out for movies you've been so excited for, and they look fucking awesome.

First is Nine:

I have been looking forward to this movie since I heard that it was Rob Marshall's (Chicago, Memoirs of a Geisha, only famous person I know) next project. It looks absolutely amazing! I was pretty nervous about some of the casting (Fergie, Kate Hudson) but it looks like I have nothing to worry about. Fergie's song in the trailer sounds excellent. I feel like such a fan-boy right now. I can already predict that Nine is going to be my musical wet dream come true for 2009

Second is Precious:
Precious was one of the big hits at Sundance this year (where it was titled Push: based on the novel by Sapphire). It stars Mo'nique, Mariah Carey, and newcomer Gabby Sidibe. It looks absolutely heartbreaking and Mo'nique has gotten rave reviews and Oscar-buzz for her performance as Precious's abusive mother. Mariah glammed it way down for this one in order to play a welfare councilor. I expect this to be my favorite non-Nine movie of the year.

What Movies are you looking forward to?
